Determinants of development of non-agricultural economic activity of farmers as exemplified by the Bransk district [Poland]

The present elaboration is an attempt to determine factors of development of various forms of non-agricultural economic activity among farmers. The empirical data used in it were collected by means of direct interview carried out on the basis of an interview questionnaire. The respondents were farm owners who, for at least 3 years, have been running both the farm and a non-agricultural business. The research has made it possible to indicate the following factors assuring market success of a firm, irrespective of the kind of business activity: own capital and good relation with contractors. In contrast, inappropriate state policy towards the sector of small enterprises, strong competition, and instability of law regulations constitute the most important barrier
