The genetic relationship among some traditional grapevine cultivars (Vitis vinifera L. ssp. sativa) and individuals from five populations of Vitis vinifera L. ssp. sylvestris (Gmelin) Hegi. from Northern Spain and the South West of France was investigated with SSR (microsatellite) analysis. The size of each allele was evaluated and statistically analysed by cluster analysis. The results were expressed in a dendrogram showing the degree of genomic similarity among the tested cultivars. High biodiversity was found among cultivars and in wild individuals. The analysis did not allow discrimination of two subspecies
