Phenotypic trend of performances traits of boars tested at the Central Test Station

Data on 738 performence tested boars of three breeds (Large White, Swedich Landrace, and Hampshire) from Central Test Station in Serbia were used to estimate phenotypic tren from 1995 to 2001. Data was analyzed separately for each breed by least squares method. The phenotypic changes were estimated from the linear regression of phenotype for observed traits on the birth year. Only phenotypes trends for feed conversion ratio of all three breeds were desirable. The phenotypic trends, through small and statistically nonsignificant, were favourable for all traits in Swedish Landrace breed. Estimated phenotypic trends for average daily gain were unexpected negative for Large White and Hampshire breeds. The phenotypic trends for average fat depth and lean meat content were higher during the period from 1995 to 1998 then in overall period in all breeds, what may be the result of instability in the pig production system and transition changes which occurred in Serbia after 1998.
