The comparative efficacy of anti-mastitis preparations – mastisan E and starch iodide for subclinical mastitis in milking cows on the background of the conventional and optimized diets was studied. There has been developed the formula of 4% winter and 10% summer premix for balanced ration. For milking cows with predicted lactation performance 6000 kg/head a year mastisan E and a 0.2% starch iodide solution were administered intracisternally once a day, 15-20 min after milking. The efficacy of the treatment routes proposed (non-balanced and balanced rations in combination with mastisan E and starch iodide) was evaluated by the convalescence time, biochemical and morphological blood parameters. As is found, using starch iodide concurrently with balanced ration allowed to reduce the convalescence time by 2-3 days and to increase the levels: hemoglobin in the lactation peak and in the dry period by 34-40% (mastisan E – by 17-30%), total calcium up to 31% and phosphorus up to 45%, total protein by 24-31% (mastisan E – 11-16%), albumin concentration by 51-66% (mastisan E – 23-32%) and albumin-globulin coefficient up to 0.89-0.97 (0.85-0.86). As is shown, the deficit of iodine in winter and summer rations may be compensated by a single subcutaneous injection of 0.2% starch iodide calculated on the 13-14 mg/head a month basis. The requirement of animals for iodine for such a method of administration is much lower (109 mg/head in winter period and 27 mg/head – in summer period) than for peroral administration (136 mg/head a year), since starch iodide is fully included in the thyroid gland without being subjected to passive diffusion and urinary excretion. A tenfold administration of 6.5-7 ml of starch iodide is able to provide an annual demand of an animal for iodine. It is concluded that starch iodide used concurrently balanced ration promotes the normalization of protein and carbohydrate metabolism, increases the activity of thyroid gland and immunodefenses. An easy to prepare, it has a high antiseptic effect and is effective for treatment and prophylaxis of subclinical mastitis.
