Lolium perenne (LP) usage is summarized. Researches were carried out in Russia, republics of former USSR and other foreign states in different environment. LP is early grass which rapidly grows after pasturing. It can withstand up to 7 pasturing cycles per a season. It stays keeping in herbage for 3-4 years. In first year LP is very competitive and may displace other species. It characterizes by low winter hardiness and low resistance to water deficiency. LP yield is often lower in single-crop sowings than other grasses one. Yield of dry weight LP mixture varies from 0.4 to 13 tons per hectare. The yield is under influence of cultivation methods, type of usage (graze or haymaking), variety properties, weather. Domestic varieties are preferable for using. Actual varieties are suitable to create sowing pastures in North Caucasus and North-Western region. They are less suitable for growing in Central, Central Chernozem and South regions, they are of little use in Volga-Vyatka region and of no use in Urales and Western Siberia. LP is responsive to fertilizer, it is possible to receive 25-30 kg per hectare additionally by 1 kg of nitrogen fertilizer application. If growed in arid zones irrigation (sprinkling or gravity irrigation) is necessary. LP nutritive value is high, digestibility and edibility are medium. LP grass may accumulate nitrates in terms above critical concentration. It should to use nitrogen fertilizers correctly without rate exceeding and to pasture herbage more rarely. LP pastural (rotational pasture) usage is more preferable than haymaking. Economical efficiency of LP usage for sheep and dairy cattle pastures in Stavropol and Krasnodar regions and Central Non-Chernozem area is proved. LP is also can be used in arrangement of green spaces.
