[Biological-biochemical basis of vegetable crop introduction and breeding]

The monograph is dedicated to the foundation and development of physiological-biochemical investigations conducted by Scientific and Production Association Gribovskoye and All-Russia Research and Development Institute of Vegetable Crop Selection and Seed Growing of Russian Academy of Agricultural Sciences in connection with 75 anniversary of the Department of Plant Physiology and Biochemistry. The theory basis is considered and practical recommendations on new varieties breeding on the basis of introduced vegetable plants with high biologically active substances and antioxidant content are given. The results of investigations of the structure, physical-chemical qualities, biological amaranthine activity, its protection function under oxidation stress and possible mechanisms of antioxidation action are pointed out. This research work was awarded with the State Prize of Russian Federation in the field of Science and Engineering for 2003 year. The technologies of obtaining new tea products, food additives on the basis of feedstock of introduced plants are presented. The book contains the list of published by the Department research works. It is intended for scientific workers, post graduates, students, agricultural specialists engaged in breeding, biochemistry and plant physiology.
