Longterm investigation of productivity of natural and artificial grasslands was reviewed. It was point that grasslands are very important resources of livestock feed, especially in the hilly-mountainous regions. Grasslands occupied about 1.700.000 ha or one third of agricultural land in Serbia. Until this period was identified 48 associations, but only 10 are of economical importance. The biggest effect on grassland improvement have application of mineral fertilizers. In the mixtures of sowing grassland legume component must be included with about 30% of covering coeficient. In lowland Medicago sativa must be included, in the hilly region Trifolium pratense and Lotus corniculatus, and in mountainous region Trifolium repens. Important problem is unsatisfactory distribution of yield in growing season. Better distribution can be achieved with earlier cutting. Yield of sowing grassland reach up to 15 t/ha DM.
