Effect of canopy and light regime on natural regeneration in sessile oak stand in the region of Celinac [Bosnia and Herzegovina]

A pure sessile oak stand was researched in the region of Celinac in the Republic of Srpska (Bosnia and Herzegovina). Sessile oak forests in this area occupy the altitidinal range between 300 meters and the highest peak of 840 m. The study stand is situated at 350 m, on serpentine bedrock with the domination of rankers and dystric cambisols. It belongs to the community Quercetum petraeae - deleschampii serpentinicum Stef. 1984 s.lat. The stand is even-aged, of seed origin and between 100 and 120 years oil. It is characterised by scattered canopy and abundant weed growth makes natural regeneration difficult. The development and characteristics of seedlings depend on the light regime in the conditions of the scattered and occasionally complete canopy in the stand. In such conditions, we researched the mutual complementary effects of the canopy and the light regime on the occurrence and the characteristics of sessile oak regeneration.
