Selection of parental forms concerns to the driving form of selection and changes concentration of genes in a population adequately to the purposes of breeding. The central place in the system of parental selection methods borrows the law of homologous series in hereditary variability. The analysis of empirical methods of parental pair selection at self-pollinated crops from positions of modern genetic and evolutionary theories allows to differentiate these methods on groups (by principle of a gene, an attribute and a variety) and on subgroups. All the methods represents a uniform system, which itself is a part of system of search and use of an initial material for breeding. Any of methods in the pure state cannot guarantee desirable result taking in account available restrictions. Only system approach to the problem of search of initial material, its genetic analysis and application of the complex of parental pair selection methods allows to use intraspecific potential of cultural plants effectively.
