It is well known that omega-3 fatty acids are regularly added to baby food, because they are not contained in the ordinary groceries. Two crucial omega-3 fatty acids can be found un fish or fish oil: C20:5 eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and C22:6 docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). The third omega-3 fatty acid is essential 18:3 alfa-linolenic acis (ALA), that is a constituent of linseed oil. The sum of EPA and DHA is considered as omega-3 fatty acids. It is not quite clear whether people are supplied with high quality omega-3 fatty acids by merely using fish in their nourishments, or some supplements are needed. If one has a habbit of consuming fish at least twice a weak, they are probably supplied with sufficient quantities of omega-3 fatty acids. In all other cases some supplements are necessary. Unfortunately, the saltwater fish resources are limited. For this reason, a trend in contemporary aquaculture is enriching the freshwater fish with higher content of omega-fatty acids, by feeding the fish in a suitable manner.
