This paper presents the results of a study on the relative contributions of mineral and organic matter to the cation exchange capacity of an arenosol soil. The relative contributions of each component were estimated using multiple linear regression equations with organic matter, silt and clay contents as independent and CEC at pH 7 as the dependent variable. The results indicates that on this type of soil the relative contribution of mineral matter (silt and clay) to cation exchange capacity is 93.8%.
