Position of agriculture and food industry in the Slovak economy
Sevcikova, M.(Vyskumny ustav ekonomiky polnohospodarstva a potravinarstva, Bratislava (Slovak Republic))
The contribution presents results of the research concerning development of the position of the Slovak agriculture and food industry in the national economy from the view of relevant macroeconomics indicators and reference of these sectors to the state budget. It follows that a long-term downward trend in the agriculture share in the gross domestic product has been changed after2000 (an increase from 4.04% in 2000 to 4.7% in 2004). It was happened due to the significant reduction of inputs. The reduction caused a decrease of intermediate consumption in relation to the created production and value added. In 2001-2004, the creation of value added in agriculture was not so demanding on intermediate consumption than in all branches (in average) of the SR economy. In contrast to agriculture, the share of foodstuffs in the gross domestic product has been declined (from 2.41% in 2000 to 0.94% in 2004). Simultaneously the demanding ness for intermediate consumption was increased, it was considerably higher than in agriculture and national economy. The different trends in agriculture and food industry in relation to the value added were shown at an increase of the share of agriculture in the created value added of agri-food industry. The different trends between agriculture and food industry were shown also by the gross fixed capital creation. Since 2002, the agriculture has reached the decline by contrast to a progressive increase of capital of the SR economy and production of foodstuffs. The decline was affected also by preparation of the food industry for fulfillment of EU standards and by the related investment demanding ness.
