Evaluation and utilization of world wheat the genus Tritium L. in RICP Praha-Ruzyne

In the years 1952-2004 a wheat collection counting 9,969 items (cultivars, strains, populations) including 30 species of the genus Triticum L. was gathered and evaluated at the department of the RICP Prague-Ruzyne. Results for Triticum aestivum L. were summarized in following groups: winter wheats - Italian, West-European, wheats from the former USSR and from the UK; spring Mexican wheats. Other species (T. spelta L., T. durum Desf, T. dicoccum Schuebl.) were evaluated as well. Several wheat cultivars have been developed: spring wheat Praga, winter spelt wheat Rubiota, spring cv. T. dicoccum Rudico. Cooperation with plant breeders led to the co-authorship of 10 registered cultivars.
