The structure and function of trees assimilatory apparatus is not fixed during their ontogeny, but significantly respond to changing light quantity and quality. There were studied the differences between fir (Abies alba Mill.) plants, which were grown under full sun and shade conditions. The influence of light condition changes was documented on selected photosynthetic and productional characteristics of fir needles. The differences between sun and shade fir needles are also shown from measured AN-PPFD curves. The growth parameters (stem height and diameter) and production characteristics (SLA, SLM) of fir needles were estimated at the beginning and at the end of experiment. These results have also demonstrated the way, how irradiation could influence the plant regeneration.
