Contribution to abandoned soils microclimate at the locality of Periska

Main cause of reforestation research at the Periska locality that started in 1957 was a complete soil devastation. Soils damaged by erosion presented extremely unfavorable hydrothermic conditions. From the microclimatic point of view we namely speak about extreme soil temperature that presented approx. 50 degree C on its surface and high differences between the maximal and minimal temperatures (amplitude) on the south-west exposition that presented even 30 degree C. Research results from 2003 showed that microclimatic conditions of reforested areas has significantly changed. This means that temperature extremes were eliminated (maximal temperatures up to 35 degree C), furthermore differences between the maximal and minimal temperatures decreased (maximal amplitude from 17 to 24 degree C), as well as potentional evaporation. Decrease in the extreme overheating of the soil surface led to the more favorable hydric conditions that at the same time present increase of available soil water for plants.
