Effect of irrigation and fertilization on nitrates movement in the soil root zone and their leaching risk has been investigated in the field trial. Rational control of soil water regime and nutrient regime is important not only for economical reasons (saving of irrigation water and fertilizers ) but especially from the environment protection point of view. There is clay-loamy soil with good soil water retention properties in the field trial, so the solute penetration to deeper layers or to groundwater is limited. According to nitrates distribution in the soil profile, nitrates leaching was not been observed in the dry year 2003. In the year 2004 after bigger precipitations, moderate vertical motion of nitrates to deeper layers occurred in the treatment more fertilized by nitrogen and with liquid manure. The water and nitrates movement can be influenced by soil macro-pores owing to those ones a preferential flow arises and quick nitrates leaching to under-layer of the soil profile or up to groundwater.
