Mayflies (Ephemeroptera) and stoneflies (Plecoptera) of the lower course of the Hron River (Southwestern Slovakia), were studied in 2000- 200l. A total of 18 species of mayflies and 2 species of stoneflies were recorded in the river and its arms, including threatened species of Slovakia: Ecdyonurus aurantiacus, Electrogena affinis and namely Ephemera lineata. Comparing the recent fauna with the data from 1950s, recovery and return of some threatened mayfly species was observed. Stonefly assemblages remained poor despite the water quality improvement in the last decades. Lower course of the Hron River is historically the best known region of the Podunajska nizina lowland with respect to mayfly taxocoenoses.
