In 1998, occurrence and abundance of weevil species (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) associated with field bindweed, Convolvulus arvensis L., was studied in southwest Slovakia with the aim to assess their relation to the host plant. Insects were weekly collected in two locations (Vráble, Kamenica n/Hronom - southeastern Slovakia). A total of 43 weevil species were collected during the study. With the exception of Eusomus ovulum Germar, Foucartia squamulata (Herbst), Sitona lineatus (Linnaeus), S. macularis (Marsham), Tanymecus palliatus (Fabricius), Sibinia pellucens (Scopoli) and Ceutorhynchus floralis (Paykull) the rest of weevils were rare and concomitant, connected to an incidental vegetation. The only species fed on field bindweed were T. palliatus and E. ovulum. T. palliatus, noticeable fed on leaves and young stems of field bindweed from May to June. The species represented 7.81% of weevil fauna associated with field bindweed at both locations E. ovulum were fed on the foliage from May to July. E. ovulum was the most numerous from the weevils in sweepings and constituted 32.71% of all collected species. Since all the species recorded are polyphagous and potential crop pests, their use in biological control of field bindweed is afield.
