The effects of probiotic preparations Lactiferm L-200 and Lactiferm L-200 plus selenium on egg production and quality of eggs of Isabrown laying hybrid were investigated. Experiment included 90 laying hens divided into three groups (control, experiment 1 and experiment 2) of 30 birds per group. Preparations were offered to layers in drinking water on a daily basis. Birds of the control were fed standard mixture. In experiment 1, laying hens were fed the mixture with an addition of Lactiferm L-200 and in experiment 2, they were fed on mixture with Lactiferm L-200 supplemented with selenium. Laying, egg weight, specific egg weight, and egg shape index were compared. The control group showed the average egg production of 297.33 eggs per hen during the laying period and its average laying intensity was 82.49%. In experiments 1 2,283.66 and 275.22 eggs, respectively, were produced for 365 days, the average intensity of laying being 78.79% and 76.45 %, respectively. Egg weight gradually increased in all groups during the laying period, with the average value of 60.94 g for the control, 62.48 g for experiment 1, and 61.14 g for experiment 2. The positive effects of probiotic preparations háve become evident. They were greater in experiment 1 where feed mixture was supplemented with Lactiferm L-200 without selenium. There were statistically significant differences (P less than 0.05) between the control and experiment 1 and between experiment 1 and experiment 2. Average specific egg weight in individual groups was as follows: 1.082 g per cubic cm the control, 1.082 g per cubic cm g in experiment 1, and 1.083 g per cubic.cm in experiment 2. Data of specific egg weight showed no statistical differences between groups. Average egg shape index was 75.96%, 76.23% and 76.02% for the control, experiment 1 and experiment 2, respectively. No statistical differences between groups were detected.
