In the present issue of the edition Kartoplyarstvo (Potato Growing), established by the Potato Research Inst. of UAAN in 1970, 16 papers in the Ukrainian language dedicated to topical issues of potato research are grouped under the four main headings as follows: problems, research, judgements (2 papers)Breeding, seed potato production, technology (6 papers)young potato scientist's word (6 papers)information (2 papers). The first section deals with the ways for improving the organizational structure of seed potato growing as well as with the potato genetic resources of Ukraine. The second section covers the issues of fertilizer effect on soil fertility, weediness of fields, potato yieldeffects of the insectofungicide Prestige on potato yield and damage of tubers by wirewormsapplicability of certain potato varieties for making potato food productspotato yield and quality depending on multiplication methods. In the third section the following topics are elucidated: establishing potato yield, while using different methods of applying fertilizersproductivity of potato varieties in the Polissya (Forest zone) of Ukraine, in particular, its southern partsanitating potato by methods of meristem culture and thermotherapybreeding assessment and selection of potato samples resistant to the potato canker Synchytrium endobioticum (Schilb.) Perc.effect of initial potato plants on growth and development of regenerants while ctting them. The last section comprises information on problems of phytosanitary security of potato in the South of Ukrainenew potato varieties.
