Nitrofurazone is an antibacterial agent classified as a mutagenic and genotoxic drug. Thus, European Union prohibited its use of it in food-producing animals. It has a very short life time in vivo, i.e. in the range of not more than a number of hours, therefore, its metabolite bound to protein was determined instead. In the developed method sample preparation was performed in three steps i.e. hydrolysis, derivatization with 2-nitrobenzaldehyde and solid phase extraction to clean the sample up. Internal standard calibration and LC-MS-MS were used for the determination. The method was applied to determine fortified sample of shrimp with good recovery of 84.0 percent at 50 nano g/g and the detection limit of 1 nano g/g.
