The aim of this work was to study the effect of the product Vemoherb-T (extract from Tribu¬lus terrestris L) on the performance of growing rabbits. The product Vemoherb-T con¬tained 60% furostanol saponins, defined as protodioscin. A total of 75 New Zealand White, male and female growing rabbits, with an initial weight of 1 kg, were randomly divided into five groups with three repetitions each (5x3x5). Group I served as a control group and groups II, III, IV and V were treated with four different doses of T.terrestris extract (2.5; 5; 7.5 and 10 mg/kg body weight, respectively) added to the drinking water once daily for 6 weeks. Under the conditions of the present study, which is the first one in the field, the results sho¬w¬ed, that the extract from T.terrestris for growing rabbits led to an increase in the average daily gain from 7 to 11% and better feed efficiency from 8 to17% depending on the received doses. The male rabbits reacted highly to the received extract. The doses of 5 mg/kg body weight im¬p¬ro¬ved the daily gain with 18% (P0.05) as compared to the control group. The female rabbits reacted to lower doses – 2.5 mg/kg body weight improved the daily gain with 13% (P0.05) as compared to the control rabbits.
