In 2005/2006 at the Fruit-Growing Institute - Plovdiv on alluvial-meadow soil (Fluvisol) a study was carried out on the effect of three rates of isoxaflutol - Merlin 750 WG on the vegetative habits, the content of leaf pigments and the yield of young sweet cherry trees of Van cultivar, grafted on Prunus avium L. seedling rootstock. The following variants were included in the experiment: 1) Control (untreated); 2) Merlin 750 WG - 6 g/da; 3) Merlin 750 WG - 8 g/da; 4) Merlin 750 WG -10 g/da.External symptoms of phytotoxicity and obvious disturbance in tree development after the application of isoxaflutol at the studied rates were not observed. There was no decrease of the values reported about the stem cross section area and the length of the annual shoot growth, the yield and the mean weight of one fruit, neither about the content of leaf pigments after the application of Merlin 750 WG at the rates of 6, 8 and 10 g/da. Early in the spring before the beginning of vegetation, the weed control in sweet cherry orchards could be realized by applying isoxaflutol - Merlin 750 WG at rates of 6-10 g/da.
