2008
Iliev, M., Institute of Agriculture, Karnobat (Bulgaria)
The purpose of the study was to analyze the information for fertility of the ewes in the process of creation of the Bulgarian Dairy Synthetic Population breed, taking into account the following factors: year of birth, age of dam, type of birth. The experiment was carried out in the Institute of Agriculture (AgIn) with 518 ewes during the period of 1998 – 2002. The values from the individual controls of the animals were used in the analysis of the database for fertility. The data was processed by the method of variation statistics. The magnitude of fertility was determined by the number of lambs borne. The year of birth and dam age caused an essential effect on the number of newborn lambs. The ewes which give birth to twin lambs the first time had higher fertility through the whole lifetime period compared to the ewes which give a single lamb at the first parturition. The AgIn ewe flock of the Bulgarian Dairy Synthetic Population breed was with satisfactory fertility.
