[Suitability of soil structures of arable lands in the north-eastern part of Belarus for growing winter rye]
2008
Gorkunov, V.A., Mogilev State Univ. (Belarus)
Production ability of soils depends on granulometric composition, lythology of soil forming rocks, moisture and erosion, and is determined according to crops productivity According to physical clay content, the optimal parameters for automorphous soils are within 18-32% for winter rye. Its productivity on soils with light granulometric composition depends mainly on genesis and depth of underlying rocks. On the basis of obtained dependence between winter rye productivity and soil factors, limiting its maximal productivity, and between quality of soil cover (the best lands, good lands, lands of medium and low quality, each class having two sub-classes) in arable lands of the region, four groups of lands, which correspond to a definite degree of their suitability for the crop have been established
