The effect of genotype and age on the carcass quality of broilers and males of the laying hybrids

The main objectives of this research were to compare the carcass quality of fast growing broiler chickens (F) and slow growing layer males (S) and to evaluate the effect of age (90 days and 132 days) on the carcass quality in S. There was a significant effect of the genotype as well as age on some of the charactersitics studied. Thus, the proportion of breast meat, the content of abdominal fat as well as the content of fat in breast and leg muscles were lower in S than in F males at the same carcass weight. Carcass quality in S chickens improved with the age.
