Adoption of recommended plant protection measures by cauliflower growers of Malerkotla and Samrala blocks of Sangrur and Ludhiana districts of Punjab

The study was conducted in Ludhiana and Sangrur districts of Punjab. From each district, one block was selected purposively on the basis of maximum area under cauliflower crop. From each block, eight villages were selected on the basis of maximum area under cauliflower crop. In this way, 150 cauliflower growers were selected as respondents in proportion to the total number of cauliflower growers in all the selected villages. It was found that 40.67 of the respondents were illiterate, 76.00 had smali landholdings and 85.33 had 5-15 years of experience in vegetable cultivation. Majority of them had low mass media exposure but they had high level of extension contacts with different extension workers for seeking information regarding plant protection measures. It was further found that 68.00 of vegetable growers used the recommended weedicides for the control of weeds and most of the farmers .used non-recommended pesticides for the control of insect-pests and diseases of cauliflower crop.
