Analysis of five cultivars of sesamum, viz., Kanak, Kalika, Vinayak, B-67 and TC-25 indicated that higher seed yield of summer season crop was associated with higher net assimilation rate (NAR), capsulae weight, number of capsules per plant, seed number, size and weight per capsule. Higher seed yield in summer season crop could be attributed to brighter light environment (437 cal. Cm? 2 day ? 1 ) and warmer weather conditions (mean max. temp. 35.7 ° C and mean min. temp. 23.6 ° C )compared to that of rabi season (312 cal. Cm 2 day ? 1 mean max. Temp. 32.1 ° C and mean min. temp. 18.2 ° C) and kharif season (134 cal. Cm ? 2 day ? 1: mean max., temp. 23.3 ° C and mean min. temp. 25.9 ° C). The cultivars did not differ significantly in respect of seed yield in both kharif and rabi seasons. However, TC - 25 recorded higher seed yield over other cultivars in both kharif and rabi seasons. In contrast, the cultivar Kanak recorded significantly higher seed yield over others during summer season.
