Soil solarization is a technique used for weed and disease control in regions with high levels of solar radiation. In order to study The efficacy of solarization upon weed control an experiment was conducted at the Research Center Of Iranshahr during 2005. The experimental design was Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with 4 replication. Treatment consisted of 1) Soil solarization for 10 weeks (Sep 7 to Nov 22)2) Soil solarization for 8 weeks (Sep 21 to Nov 22)3) Soil solarization for 6 weeks (Oct 7 to Nov 22)4) Paraquat (Gramoxon 20% SL) at a 3L ha-15) Hand-hoed check6) Weedy check. The results showed that Solarization effectively reduced the population of almost all weeds by around 100%, except for Cyperus rotundus. Even though solarization has been considered to be effective for controlling weeds, the population of C. rotondus was increased by solarization.
