Collection and identification of host plants of sugarbeet cyst nematode in Khorasan province

Duriny the years of 2002-2004 extensive survey were carried out to collect and identify weed hosts of sugarbeet cyst nematode in sugarbeet fields of Shirvan, Ghouchan,Chenaran, Fariman,Torbat-jam, Sabzevar ,Torbat-heydaryeh cities.In this work, 78 weed species belonging to18 families were identified .Weed seeds were planted in clay pots containig 250 ml.nematode infested soil (10J2 and eggs/gr.) and held in a growth chamber at 25-27 and 16 hours light for 2 months. The experiments showed that 26 weed species belonging to 8 plant families of Amaranthaceae,Asteraceae,Brassicaceae,Caryophillaceae,Chenopodiaceae,polygonaceae, portulacaceae and Solanaceae were hosts of the nematode. It was concluded that elimination of weed hosts in combination with crop rotation using nonhost plants are important factors in effective integrated nematode management programme.
