Study of effects of egg weight on hatchability rate, hatching time and body weight gain in native turkeys of Azarbaijan

This experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of egg weight on hatching time, hatchability, hatcling weight and post-hatching performance of Azerbaijan native turkeys. Therefore, 1000 turkey eggs in five-weight classes65-70, 70-75, 75-80, 80-85 and 85-90 g were selected and hatched in three hatches (blocks). Hatching time (hours), hatchability and hatched poults weight of each weight groups were measured. Hatched poults from each weight group raised until 8 month. By the age of puberty, daily feed intake recorded and turkeys of each egg weight groups were weighted at the end of each month by sex separately (two factor). The length of incubation period pf group (85 -90) in comparison to other 4 groups was longer and the difference was significant statistically (P0.05). Results showed that the hatchability of 65-70and 70-75 g eggs with 77.62% and73.33% were higher than the other weight groups and the difference was significant statistically (P0.05). Setter died embryos of 65-70 g eggs were statistically lower than the other egg weight groups (P0.05). There were not any significant differences between egg weight groups in other incubation traits. The live weights of hatched poults were higher with increasing egg weights (P0.05). Up to 16 week age the performance difference among different groups was not significant (P0.05), howere chicks of group 65-70g were significantly heavier than other groups from 21week to 24 weeks of age. From 4 to 8 weeks, feed intake of turkeys hatched from 65-70 g eggs (53.42 g per hen day), were upper than the other weight groups and they have only significant differences with 80-85 g eggs (P0.05). There were not any significant differences between feed conversion ratio and hatching period (block) of egg weight groups in any of ages (till puberty age). From the present results it can be can concluded that eggs with 65-80 gr are suitable for hatching industry but to achieve more clear imformation concerning the related mechanisms, the effects of beeder age on incubation traits, embryo development ,intestinal changes, performance and mortaily, extra experiments and ecomomically studies are necessary.
