In present study, an extensive sampling was undertaken from the diverse agricultural crops, such as cereals, pulses (annual leguminous crops), sugarbeet, oilseed crops, vegetables and citrus, in Khuzestan province between April 1999 and September 2000. The Auchenorrhyncha specimens were then separated from the samples, mounted and labelled to be examined. The specimens were identified on the basis of external and internal morphology, in particular, male genitalia, using identification keys and original descriptions. The examined taxa, which belonged to three families, were identified as follows: I- Cercopidae Cercopis intermedia Kirschbaum (Cercopinae) II- Cicadellidae Austroagallia sinuata (Mulsant & Rey) (Agalliinae, Agalliini) Euscelidius sp. (Deltocephalinae, Athysanini) Balclutha incisa (Matsumura) (Deltocephalinae, Macrostelini) Psammotettix alienus (Dahlbom) (Deltocephalinae, Paralimnini) Exitianus sp. (Deltocephalinae, Stirellini) Empoasca decedens Paoli (Typhlocybinae, Empoascini) Jacobiasca lybica (Bergevin & Zanon) (Typhlocybinae, Empoascini) III- Cixiidae Oliarus sp. (Cixiinae, Pentastirini) Among these species, A. sinuata and P. alienus are of great importance because they act as the vectors of plant diseases. The debates on synonymy of some species, the importance of vector species and the necessity of further studies were discussed.
