Effect of different inoculum levels of Meloidogyne incognita was studied on tomato variety Roma, by transplanting 30 days old seedlings in earthen pots (15 cm dia.) containing 2.5kg sterilized soil (80:20, sand and loamy). The plants were inoculated 3 days after transplanting with second stage juveniles at 0 (control), 100, 500, 1000, 1500 and 2000 J2 per plant. All the inoculum levels significantly reduced plant growth and increased number of galls and nematode population. Maximum reduction in plant growth (root and shoot length) was recorded in plants inoculated with 2000 J2. The number of galls per plant was increased with 1000 J2 followed by 1500, 500, 2000 and 100 J2 per plant, respectively. The severity of root knot index (RKI) was related with development of galls per plant. The rate of nematode population was also highest as nematode inoculum level increased and reproduction factor decreased as inoculum level increased.
