This paper will present the results of the impact assessment of the Kambiyo Binhi Project of PhilRice Midsayap where a farmer exchanged his 50 kg of any seed class to the 40 kg seeds of PhilRice Midsayap. The project was launched last April 2007 and targeted Palongoguen, Bagumba, Bual Norte, and Bual Sur, all nearby barangays [villages] of PhilRice Midsayap. There were 40 farmers who availed of more than 200 bags of certified seeds from PhilRice Midsayap. The impact assessment attempted to do a complete enumeration, but some farmers either changed residence or were not in said barangays at the time of data gathering. Twenty-eight farmers were interviewed for the IA. Results showed that 67.86% of the farmers interviewed reported an increase in their yields and 73.68% of them attributed said increase to the use of certified seeds. The top two reasons why farmers used certified seeds were because they are high yielding and they wanted to try new seeds. Moreover, farmers averred that they were not using certified seeds before, as they are expensive and they relied on the Kambiyo system where they just exchanged seeds with other farmers. More than half of the respondents said they will continue planting certified seeds and 82.14% reported they will promote certified seeds with other farmers. Posters along main road, radio plug aired over the community radio station, active involvement of the barangay officials, support from church leaders, and personal visit of PhilRice MES staff were the strategies used in promoting the project.
