This study was undertaken to investigate the effect of salinity stress on photosynthetic pigments in Ulva rigida C. A. Agardh. The samples were collected during October 2004 from southern Marmara Sea and cultivated in different salinity conditions during six days, which were harvested everyday to measure the chlorophyll-a, chlorophyll-b and total Carotenoids contents. Salinity stress resulted in a significant decrease in chlorophyll-a content compared with control treatment, whereas the content of chlorophyll-b remained unaffected. It appeared that chlorophyll-b tolerated more the salinity stress than chlorophyll-a. However, total carotenoids contents were increased under the salinity stress.
