Five early maturing oats cultivars viz. S-2000, Fulgrain, Kent, Early Miller and Avon (check) were evaluated for grain traits, green fodder yield potential and quality at Fodder Research Institute, Sargodha, Pakistan during 2003-04 to 2006-07. The results revealed that S-2000 performed better for plant height, stem thickness, leaf area, number of tillers per plant, number of leaves per tiller and average grain and green fodder yield of better quality. The new cultivar S-2000 out yielded the rest of varieties by producing 2.66 tons grain yield and 80.31 tons green fodder yield per hectare. On the basis of four years results, oats variety S-2000 is recommended for farming community to enhance fodder yield for their livestock.
