The study to evaluate the effects of different planting patterns and density on growth and yield of Sunflower variety HO-1 was conducted at Students, Farm, Sindh Agriculture University, Tandojam, during autumn 2005. Planting patterns included: Drilling (75cm) @ Normal seed rate of 7.5 kg per ha, Dibbling (75cm) @, Normal seed rate of 7.5 kg per ha, Row spacing (75cm) @ Normal seed rate of 7.5 kg per ha, Drilling (75cm) @ High seed rate of 10 kg per ha, Intercropping sunflower (75cm) + Guar (Green manure) @ Normal seed rate of 7.5 kg per ha, Row spacing (60cm) @ Normal seed rate of 7.5 kg per ha, Mulching with Wheat bhusa + Sunflower (75 cm) @ Normal seed rate of 7.5 Kg per ha, Drilling (75cm) @ Low seed rate of 5 kg per ha, Row spacing (45cm) @ Normal seed rate of 7.5 kg per ha. The results indicated that planting patterns had statistically highly significant effects on Seed germination m2, Plant height (cm), Stem girth (cm), Head diameter (cm), Seeds head-1, Seed weight head-1 (g), Biomass per plant (g), Seed index (g), Seed yield (kg per ha). The results concluded that planting pattern like Mulching with Wheat bhusa + Sunflower (75 cm) @ seed rate of 7.5 kg per ha produced the highest seed yield (3809.14 kg per ha) as compared to other planting patterns. However, planting pattern of Intercropping Sunflower (75cm) + Guar (Green manure) @ Normal seed rate of 7.5 kg per ha ranked @ 2nd for the production of more seed yield kg per ha which might be due to addition of green manure in the planting patterns.
