Two multipurpose farmers cooperatives in Luzon, namely, the Bacabac Primary Multipurpose Cooperative in Camiling Tarlac and the Biba-Diwa Multipurpose Cooperative in Malasique, Pangasinan, were the initial project partners in the community mass production of Trichogramma. Partners from a state College, [Tarlac College of Agriculture] and from the Municipal Agriculture Office of Anao, Tarlac, collaborated during the extension part of the project. Training-seminars on mass production and utilization of Trichogramma against lepidopterous pests of corn and vegetables were held. The Cooperatives spearheaded the construction of the parasitoid production laboratory and promoted use of the parasitoids produced against lepidopterous corn pests by the member-farmers. On the other hand, the state college collaborated with the staff of the Provincial Agriculture Office (PAO) and DA regional field office in Tarlac in promoting parasitoid use by some vegetable growers in area-wide corn production project of the province at a minimal price of P 4.00/Trichogramma card. As a strategy, the use of Trichogramma was built-in to the production credit of corn/vegetable farmers with financing institutions. The intended beneficiaries of this project were those who cannot avail of the Trichogramma parasitoids produced in the government intrumentalities like the DA. Thus, this community-based production of Trichogramma supplements the expected production shortfalls and operates year-round following the marketing strategy, thus ensuring sustainability and financial viability.
