The yields (per pot) of one-, two- and multi-stem free tillering oat plants were studied under conditions of controlled soil humidity. It was found that naked oats cv. Akt showed lower yielding potential, by 30 percent, than husked oats cv. Borowiak. It was determined by a lower number and weight of grains per panicle. However, both forms did not differ significantly as regards their yields converted into husked grain. The highest yield per pot was found when oat plants were tillering in a natural way, mainly due to the higher number of productive panicles. Mechanical control of the stem number, to one or two per plant, resulted in a yield decrease by 6 and 16 percent, respectively
