Genetic inheritance of high prolificacy in Olkuska sheep breed

In light of the results obtained, and in accordance with the current names for known fertility genes in sheep, the putative major gene is proposed to be named as Fecundity Olkuska (FecO). The analysis of the origin of Olkuska sheep breed and comparison of the gene effect suggests that the Fecundity Olkuska gene might be related to Wishard gene segregating in the Romney population from New Zealand, or to a putative major gene in Belle Ile sheep from France. It is also possible that a spontaneous mutation has occurred in Olkuska sheep population
