The paper presents the results of colonization and management of red deer in the enclosed breeding ground Lomnicka Reka situated in the central part of the mountain Veliki Jastebac, Serbia. The first animals, which were brought from north-east Backa (Serbia), were released in autumn 1997, to the adaptation area of 6.4 ha. However, the study results show that the gender and age structure of the initial pool was signficantly disturbed, and the density in the study period was lower than the optimal. For this reason, the red deer from the breeding ground were not realised to the open part of the hunting ground Veliki Jastebac. On the other hand, the results of measurement and analysis of discarded fourth antlers indicate a high quality and a good subsequent development of red deer calves, which after the introduction to the breeding ground Lomnicka Reka adapted very successfully to the new habitat.
