Evaluating particle size of dairy cow rations | Ispitivanje velicine cestica u obrocima za krave muzare

Silage and total mixed rations (TMR) particle size were analyzed on 11 dairy farms in Serbia using New Penn State Particle Size Separator. 73% of silage and all TMR samples did not fit the recommendations. It have been found that proportion of particles larger then 1.18 mm is best represent of particle size, and that it is followed by proportion of particles larger than 8 mm and geometrical average. Positive correlation between particle size and fat percent (+0.66), negative correlation between particle size and milk yield (-0.85) and also displaced abomasum frequency (-0.74) have been found.
