Maize planting should be started at the end of the first decade of April, using seed of high germination percentage and vigor. On the majority of the area (50-60%) the planting of maize should be completed during the second decade of April and completely finished until the end of April. If there are reasons to postpone the planting of maize until May, early maturing hybrids tolerant to later sowing must be selected. For medium early and medium late hybrids the proposed range of plant density is 68-79.000 plants per hectare. Late maturing hybrids produce the highest average yield with density of 57.000 plants per hectare, without any significant effect of further increase of plant density to yield increase.
