Diseases caused by endohelminths present a significant health and economic problem on the field of wild ruminants health care. Within different wild species breed in enclosures fallow deer (Cervus dama dama) are the most widely spread farm deer in Slovenia. Currently studies revealed a wide range of protozoas, helminths and arthropods that are present as ecto- and endo parasites. Three major groups of endoparasites Nematoda, Trematoda, Cestoda were detected in fallow deer. The latest parasitological examinations in fallow deer show 18 species, 16 of those for the first time. There were 16 species of gastrointestinal parasites from the phylum Nematoda, one species from phylum Trematoda and eggs in feces from class Sporozoa. Although our study did not revealed the presence of lung parasites they may appear in fallow deer. For the prophylaxis and therapy of endohemintic diseases in deer breed in enclosures several anthelmintic drugs with different mode action are in use.
