This work investigates the effects of the preozonization process on aldehyde content of coagulated water, during treatment of groundwater from the region of central Banat (Serbia) which was treated in a pilot plant which included preozonization, coagulation/floculation, sedimentation and filtration. The best removal of natural organic matter content from water was achieved with a combined process of preozonization and coagulation with an ozone dose of 0.48 mg of O3/mg DOC. It was also determined that this ozone dose lead to the lowest total aldehyde content in the preozonated and coagulated water (17 microg/l), and the lowest content of the mutagen glyoxal, which is especially important for the health aspect of drinking water quality.
