The study was carried out to investigate standardized ileal digestibilities (SID) of crude protein and amino acids in legume seeds for growing pigs. Three consecutive experiments were conducted with six barrows each, fitted with a simple T-cannula at the distal ileum. In total, 18 assay diets with six different cultivars from faba beans or peas, five different cultivars from lupins and one assay diet with a commercial high-protein soybean meal were tested in a row-column-design. The assay feedstuffs were added to a cornstarch casein-based basal diet at the expense of cornstarch. Each diet was formulated to supply approximately 50% of crude protein and amino acids from the assay feedstuff and casein, respectively. The SID of amino acids were determined in difference to SID of amino acids originating from casein. The SID of crude protein and amino acids were the highest in soybean meal. The SID of crude protein in faba beans (76%), peas (80%) and lupins (86%) were significantly different. Methionine, tryptophan and phenylalanine from grain legumes had lower (p0.05) SID values compared with soybean meal. Faba beans and peas had lower (p0.05) SID of amino acids, except for lysine, in comparison to lupins and soybean meal.
