It became evident that the control on the presence of constituents of animal origin in feed is important tool to prevent the expansion of BSE. For this purpose, the official microscopic method was introduced in EU and each member country has been required to appoint an official laboratory to perform the analysis. Moreover, the official method carried out in the appointed laboratory must be validated and accredited according to European and international standards.
