In an experiment with suckler beef cattle the influence of duration of suckling period (6 months and 9 months) on milk yield and body weight of cows and weight gain of suckler beef cattle are determined. In the experiment the cows are fed with forage of low quality. Anyhow the milk yield oh the first lactating Simmental cows was on a ligh level (6 month suckling: 2040 kg; 9 month suckling: 3329 kg cow). The highest daily milk yield was found in the second lactation month. The milk protein content of the suckling cows was 3 % and the milk fat content was with 3,3-3,4 % on an unexpected low level. The daily gains of the beef cattle (Simental x Limousin steers and heifers) were 1,22 and 1,26 kg for the 180 or 270 days of suckling period, respectively. The duration of suckling period had significant influences on live weight gain and body condition of the suckling cows.
