Actual state and development of soils in Slovakia according to concrete threats to soil (soil contamination, acidification, salinization and sodification, soil organic matter content, soil compaction and erosion) are described in this contribution. The significant role on given threats to soil have a man with his various activities. These ones are connected with degradation of soil and with deterioration of environment and quality of life, as well.
