Samples of Rendzic Leptosols and Calcaric Cambisols were taken from plots of Skutovky, near at Liptovská Osada and Jazierce (Jazierces travertine) nearby Ružomberok. Chemical and physico-chemical properties of soils were determined by standard analytic methods. Though Rendzic Leptosols have shown higher contents of macro- and microelements, with the exception of K, compared to Calcaric Cambisols, its productive properties are limited by one-sided mineral nutrition (Ca, Mg). From investigated risk elements, only Ni has overstepped the limit concentration in C-horizon, however, its potentially available amount was low below the limit value. It as pointed out to the strong bound of this element to the soil at higher pH value. In the Karst regions, like that Slovak Karst and the Burren Karst Park, in Ireland, the degradation of Rendzic Leptosols group is caused by deforestation and by a long period of drought. The protection of these endangered soils can be secured by sophisticated management of forestry.
